Nigel Byford – Chair

Nigel worked within Probation for over thirty five years following initial work with the voluntary sector and social services. His experience has included frontline and managerial positions in virtually all aspects of probation work including periods of secondment within the prison service. For forteen years Nigel was an Assistant Chief Officer, leading on public protection work for Probation in the former Staffordshire and West Midlands Probation Trust and from June 2014 in the newly formed National Probation Service.

Nigel retired from the Probation Service in November 2021. He became Chair of EV in June 2023.
